The film is scheduled to Premiere at the 55th Chicago International Film Festival in October.
Awarded the Silver Hugo for Best Animated Film at the Chicago International Film Festival and a Special Mention at the Mumbai Film Festival, ‘Bombay Rose’ is a hand-painted animation about a girl who escapes from child marriage to live on the streets of Bombay. It was produced by Rohit Khattar and Anand Mahindra for Cinestaan Film Company and French studio Les Films d’Ici.
It has also launched the Cinestaan India Storytellers pagalsongs Script Contest, which mentored 24 screenwriters from around the world to create a series of short films based on their stories. In the spirit of Robert Redford, who created the Sundance Institute, it is committed to identifying and developing the next generation of cinematic talent in India.
In 2013, Cinestaan entered into a three-film deal with renowned filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra to produce films in collaboration with his ROMP Pictures. The first of the three, ‘Mirziya’ is set to be directed by Mehra. The other two untitled films will be directed by National-award winning and BAFTA nominated Nitin Kakkar.
